THE WINERY
Located in the heart of the town of Bad Dürkheim, the Fitz-Ritter estate includes both the renowned VDP winery and the oldest Sekt (sparkling wine) production in the Pfalz.
The extensive grounds with the neo-classical estate house, historical gardens and the “RebArena” event location, lie surrounded by vineyards.
The wines are a reflection of their distinctive origin . All 62 acres (25 hektar) of vineyards are farmed certified organic to ensure sustainability and natural purity. This includes famous vineyard names such as the Michelsberg, Herrenberg, Spielberg, Hochbenn, Fuchsmantel and the Monopole vineyard Abtsfronhof.
TRADITION & INNOVATION
The family business is now run by Johann Fitz, the ninth generation. With the 240-year tradition always in mind, new concepts and innovations are cultivated.
The renovation of the historic cross-vaulted hall into a ballroom with a modern winter garden was implemented in 2008. In 2013, the new wine shop was opened, creating a connection to the vaulted cellar and the estate garden. In 2022, the extensive construction project "Weingut 2.0" was completed with the new construction of the entire winery and warehouse. In summer 2024, three exquisite Guthaus Suites were opened in the winery.
The winery rents out its premises and park for private and corporate events . Guided wine tastings for groups in German or English are offered at the winery or online by appointment.
VDP. PREDICATE WINERY
As a founding member of the VDP association, focus at Fitz-Ritter is on Riesling from the best vineyards. The wines are predominantly dry and clearly reflect the typical character of each provenance. Full-bodied and spicy, delicate and fine – the wines from each vineyard show great diversity. Sweet predicate wines round off the portfolio. The vineyards provide ideal conditions for the winery to grow Burgundy varieties. Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris vines thrive in limestone-studded clay soil and bring full-bodied, well balanced white wines.
The red wine varietals are predominantly planted in sandy soil. Following open mash fermentation, the wines, in particular the elegant Pinot Noirs, are matured for a term of 15 to 18 months in Barrique barrels made from oak of various origins.
