The soil and the grapes:
A healthy soil with diverse soil life allows the vines to thrive optimally. We create this basis by working in harmony with nature. So the decision for us to work according to EU ecological guidelines since 2009 was obvious.
The grapes for our Riesling from der RebArena, come from our house vineyard, the Rittergarten. In 2010, our RebArena, an open-air event area surrounded by vines in the middle of the vineyard, was built in the middle of the knight's garden. The loess-clay soil offers an ideal basis for a mineral-influenced Riesling with concentrated fruit. The natural springs in the subsoil offer an optimal water supply even in difficult, dry growing seasons.
Our expansion:
The harvest of golden-yellow, ripe grapes has provided the best basis for this terroir-shaped Riesling. The vinification took place through a controlled, cooled fermentation to 100% in stainless steel tanks
Our wine:
Apple notes with body and finesse.
Analysis data:
Alcohol: 12.29%
Residual sugar: 4.5 g/L
Acid: 6.9 g/L
As a founding member of the VDP association, focus at Fitz-Ritter is on Riesling from the best vineyards. The wines are predominantly dry and clearly reflect the typical character of each provenance. Full-bodied and spicy, delicate and fine – the wines from each vineyard show great diversity. Sweet predicate wines round off the portfolio. The vineyards provide ideal conditions for the winery to grow Burgundy varieties. Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris vines thrive in limestone-studded clay soil and bring full-bodied, well balanced white wines.
The red wine varietals are predominantly planted in sandy soil. Following open mash fermentation, the wines, in particular the elegant Pinot Noirs, are matured for a term of 15 to 18 months in Barrique barrels made from oak of various origins.
