The soil and the grapes:
A healthy soil with diverse soil life allows the vines to thrive optimally. We create this basis by working in harmony with nature. The decision to work according to EU organic guidelines since 2009 was therefore a natural one for us with 0.4 hectares, which protrudes very exposed over the landscape on old Weinbergsmauern up to four meters high. Riesling grapes of the highest quality have been ripening here for centuries. In contrast to the Buntsandstein that is otherwise predominant, the Herrenberg soil consists of loess clay with a high limestone content. This makes the wines from this location unmistakable: mineral freshness, charming fruit play and a strong body ensure the wines have a particularly long life.

Our expansion:
The harvest of golden yellow, ripe grapes provides the basis for a characterful wine with an expressive terroir. We expanded a small part of the harvest without adding pure yeasts, ie through spontaneous fermentation with the background of emphasizing the origin of the grapes and thus of the terroir.
Our wine:
Rieslings from Herrenberg are strong and mineral. With aromas of herbs and a peppery spiciness.
Analysis data:
Alcohol: 13.0%
Residual sugar: 3.2 g/l
Acid: 6.9 g/l
As a founding member of the VDP association, focus at Fitz-Ritter is on Riesling from the best vineyards. The wines are predominantly dry and clearly reflect the typical character of each provenance. Full-bodied and spicy, delicate and fine – the wines from each vineyard show great diversity. Sweet predicate wines round off the portfolio. The vineyards provide ideal conditions for the winery to grow Burgundy varieties. Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris vines thrive in limestone-studded clay soil and bring full-bodied, well balanced white wines.
The red wine varietals are predominantly planted in sandy soil. Following open mash fermentation, the wines, in particular the elegant Pinot Noirs, are matured for a term of 15 to 18 months in Barrique barrels made from oak of various origins.
