WINE EXPERTISE
Organic wine (DE-ÖKO-039)
25 million years ago, in the inland sea of today's Upper Rhine Graben, a reef was formed on which countless mussels settled. Vines have been growing here for 2,000 years, their roots reaching deep into the limestone reef. This is how our mineral, powerful "Riff Riesling" with great aging potential came about.
The soil and the grapes:
A healthy soil with diverse soil life allows the vines to thrive optimally. We create this basis by working in harmony with nature. So the decision for us to work according to EU ecological guidelines since 2009 was obvious.
Already in 1828, at the time of the royal Bavarian administration, the Ungsteiner Herrenberg was considered one of the best locations in the Palatinate. Its special climatic position is based on the south-east orientation of the vineyards. In addition, it is located on the slopes of a hill sheltered by the Palatinate Forest, which means that it escapes any influence of cold air.
In contrast to the otherwise predominant Buntsandstein, the soil of the "Herrenberg" consists of loess clay with a high limestone content. This makes the wines from such a location unmistakable: mineral freshness, charming fruit play and a strong body ensure the wines have a particularly long life.
Our wine:
The selected grapes were carefully picked by hand, gently pressed and fermented under restraint. An elegant balance was achieved by prolonged aging on the yeast. This fresh, fruity Riesling with its brilliant color inspires with elegant peach and apricot aromas with slight hints of citrus. Its mineral nature and the dry, long finish make it an ideal accompaniment to food.
Analysis data:
Alcohol: 13.0%

As a founding member of the VDP association, focus at Fitz-Ritter is on Riesling from the best vineyards. The wines are predominantly dry and clearly reflect the typical character of each provenance. Full-bodied and spicy, delicate and fine – the wines from each vineyard show great diversity. Sweet predicate wines round off the portfolio. The vineyards provide ideal conditions for the winery to grow Burgundy varieties. Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris vines thrive in limestone-studded clay soil and bring full-bodied, well balanced white wines.
The red wine varietals are predominantly planted in sandy soil. Following open mash fermentation, the wines, in particular the elegant Pinot Noirs, are matured for a term of 15 to 18 months in Barrique barrels made from oak of various origins.
