The soil and the grapes:
A healthy soil with diverse soil life allows the vines to thrive optimally. We create this basis by working in harmony with nature. So the decision for us to work according to EU ecological guidelines since 2009 was obvious.
The grapes for our flag tower Riesling grow in the Fuchsmantel site in Dürkheim. This location has a geological peculiarity, not only because it extends in the form of terraces around the flag tower, but because it combines a wide variety of soil conditions (light sand in the upper part and a high proportion of clay in the lower part of the location). The soil provides optimal conditions for a lean, playful Riesling with fine fruit and light minerality.
The flag tower is a two-story tower on the top of the Fuchsmantel at an altitude of 224 m southwest of Bad Dürkheim and was built in 1854 through donations from Dürkheim citizens.
Our grapes were harvested when fully ripe.
Our expansion:
The vinification was carried out by a controlled, cooled fermentation to 100% in stainless steel tanks. Storage on the fine lees gives this wine a fine melt, as a counterpart to the typical Riesling note.
Our wine:
lively interplay of sweetness and acidity with Mirabelle plum aromas.
Analysis data:
Alcohol: 12.0%
Residual sugar: 11.5 g/l
Acid: 7.7 g/l
As a founding member of the VDP association, focus at Fitz-Ritter is on Riesling from the best vineyards. The wines are predominantly dry and clearly reflect the typical character of each provenance. Full-bodied and spicy, delicate and fine – the wines from each vineyard show great diversity. Sweet predicate wines round off the portfolio. The vineyards provide ideal conditions for the winery to grow Burgundy varieties. Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris vines thrive in limestone-studded clay soil and bring full-bodied, well balanced white wines.
The red wine varietals are predominantly planted in sandy soil. Following open mash fermentation, the wines, in particular the elegant Pinot Noirs, are matured for a term of 15 to 18 months in Barrique barrels made from oak of various origins.
